Q: What is a cavity? 

 

A cavity is basically a hole made in your tooth by the acid byproducts of bacteria which have consumed sugar or carbohydrates after meals. 


 Q: What is a root canal?

 

A root canal treatment is a thorough debridement or removal othe pulp / nerve in the tooth so that the pain can no longer exist.  The pulp / nerve is then replaced with a clean rubber like cone that has antibiotic properties

 

 

Q: Why do I have bad breath even though I brush everyday?

 

To maintain adequate oral hygiene means to visit the dentist for

regular cleanings.  Many areas of plaque are missed when

brushing by patients, the dental hygienist is able to reach and remove these odor producing areas.   

 

        Q:  How often should I visit the dentist?

 

You should visit the dentist at least 2 times a year for cleanings      

and check ups.  From there, we will determine if x-rays are          

necessary. A lot of costly procedures can be avoided by allowing more conservative preventive measures. 

 

       Q: Are Amalgam (mercury-silver) fillings safe?

 

Yes Amalgam is safe.  Amalgam is a mix of silver, tin, copper, zinc, and mercury.  Amalgam has been used for more than 100 years and there no studies that has ever shown a correlation between any kind of medical disorder and amalgam.  More than 75% of dentists use this material because of its effectiveness.
